Hi, I’m Lori Hoeck, a long time self defense instructor and senior martial arts instructor in the styles of Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do. I can tell you with conviction – by using the proper force of will and focused intensity, you can overcome even a large attacker.

Becoming a black belt might be thrilling, and executing a powerful jump reverse crescent kick impressive. Just because most people would prefer to skip 4-10 years of grueling training, doesn’t mean they don’t want to walk the streets with a well developed sense of their own personal defense.

It is always better to avoid physical confrontation from an attacker or easily spot a predator’s tricky manipulations well before being seduced by them.  Think Like a Black Belt shows you how to sidestep their radar, while providing you with the proper tools to help keep you and your children safe in many situations.

Give your family the instruments of mental self defense they need to deal with any situation.

Also included is a unique, companion newsletter that goes well beyond my e-book or my website information and articles. Newsletter subscribers will take a journey of discovery into higher-level black belt thinking — the kind that builds inner strength and the mind of a gentle, but savvy, warrior.

Here’s what other writers are saying about it:

kidnapper“It is an excellent how-to book about raising our awareness, relying on intuition, reducing vulnerability and learning emergency thinking in order to avoid becoming a target of attack by a criminal.” Linda Abbit of Tender Loving Eldercare

“Every parent and child can benefit from Lori’s wisdom and experience. Most of us are ill-equipped to deal with being the targets of any sort of aggression, whether it comes from the 3rd grade bully, the overbearing co-worker, or the stranger lurking in the street.” ~Betsy Wuebker of  Passing Thru

I’ve read it and would recommend it to anyone with children as it is brimming with practical points of discussion to keep parents mindful and their children safe.” ~ Sean Platt of Writer Dad

DID YOU KNOW?

FACT: A woman who defends herself against an assailant gains an 86% chance of avoiding rape while greatly reducing the chance of additional injury. Most injuries occur before the woman starts to fight back.
FACT: Young people between the ages of 12 and 24 are the most frequent victims of violent crime. Your children can develop the essential tools they need to keep themselves safe.
FACT: Self defense is far more about a determined heart and mind than it is about actual physical skills. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.

BYPASS YEARS OF TRAININGself defense

Think Like a Black BeltTake Charge of Your Own Safety will give you a well developed black belt mindset, without the years of hard work facing every martial arts student.

As a third degree black belt and senior instructor in the martial arts, I have countless hours compiling the most effective self defense tips, gathered from my years of teaching self defense classes to non-martial artists. I have taught university dorm residents, victim advocate volunteers, church members, business people, and high school students.

I can teach you.

The e-book also includes dynamic questions designed to trigger the powerful discussions that will keep your children safer.

Each of the 15 self defense tips is followed by at least 7 talking points for you and your children. Here are just a few of the compelling questions you will be asking your child:

  • Think about your hero. What one thing about their body language can you take as your own?
  • If people want to engage in risky behavior, what kind of thoughts would convince them to do so?
  • Why would being too hungry, angry, lonely, tired, sick, overwhelmed, depressed, or upset make it more difficult to avoid danger?
  • What does it mean to you if someone says, “I have a right to defend myself’?”
  • What can you do if you are alone with someone and don’t feel right about the person, place, or situation?
  • Have you ever noticed patterns in the behaviors of others? For example, can you always spot a surprise party in the works or can you sense when someone is trying to “pull one over” on you?

THINK LIKE A BLACK BELT WILL HELP:

self defense

  • Women. Women are the primary target for certain kinds of predators and criminals.
  • Men. The best self-protection for most crimes is prevention, regardless of gender.
  • Parents. A parents job is to outfit their children with the right tools and then keep them sharp. How sharp are the tools your children are carrying?
  • Any one who values safety. If prevention fails, you must know the sound strategies that will keep you safe.

Think Like a Black Belt won’t provide you with super powers, but it does distill the fundamental practicality from years worth of lessons into an easy to read book that will have you thinking and behaving different long after the final page.

Isn’t the safety of you and your loved ones worth less than the cost of dinner for two?

I can give you the tools, all you have to do is click, read, and put into practice.

I have eight nieces and four nephews who could never attend my karate classes over the last twenty years because they lived too far away. I want to pass the gift of self defense on to them and their kids without a 4-5 year investment of time and money.

self defenseThis e-book is the long in development brainchild of:

  • A senior instructor in the martial arts
  • A third degree black belt in tae kwon do
  • A second degree black belt in tang soo do
  • A contributor for Black Belt Magazine
  • A Former volunteer firefighter and EMT

I didn’t always think like a black belt. Back when I was young, foolish, and fairly convinced nothing bad could ever happen to me, I strolled out to a bus stop on Colorado State Highway 82 hoping to hop on the next bus heading into Aspen.

While I waited, a 30-something man in an enormous boat of a car, slowed and then idled a few feet from the bus stop. He waved me over calling, “Hey, I’m headed to Aspen. Do you want a ride?” I thought, What the heck? This will save me some bus fare. I opened the passenger door, threw my day pack on the floor, then hopped inside the vehicle. Almost immediately after accelerating to the speed limit, the man looked over at me with eyes that refused to meet mine and said, “I hope you don’t mind, but I really get off on looking at you.” Every warning bell in my system started ringing. My mind instantly visualized duct tape, rope, and plastic bags in this guy’s huge car trunk, a trunk big enough to hold several bodies and then some.

By that point in my life, I had grown up a tough farm girl with three older brothers and had already taken a few months of karate. Despite those earlier experiences and training, it was only then, somewhere deep in my soul, that my Inner Warrior fully awoke for the first time.
